Second Look

Each year after interview season is over, most residencies have second look evenings. This gives candidates the chance to come back and meets the other candidates and to check out programs in a more relaxed setting than an interview. Last night was Peoria's second look, so Joshua and I were in attendance.

It was a fun night, especially for the residents and faculty who don't have match day looming over their heads. I couldn't help but feel a little sad for all the candidates. I remember how frustrating the entire match process was. Last night was a great reminder of how far we have come, and how much lovelier life is now.

Matchmaker, Matchmaker Make me a Match

So, Vanilla Bean Counter is thinking about getting back into online dating because the first round several months ago was so fantastic. This evening we have spent some time perusing Peoria's offerings on match.com. Some of my favorite quotes include the following:

"I am a sunni muslim. and i am interested in somebody who follows the teaching of Islam in every day of there life and offer the salah 5 times a day. It would be good if you wear Hijab too."

-Sir, I'm not sure that match.com is going to result in the type of girl you're looking for, but good luck.

"I have a unique sense of style and the way I dress and the car I drive reflects that. I sometimes wear slippers when I go out because they are more comfortable than shoes. I have a personal assistant who I get to frustrate on a daily basis by dropping my clothes on the floor rather than in the hamper."

-Sir, you're weird.

These are just a few of my favorites. They were good for a chuckle, which was nice. Getting back into online dating is a bit of a bummer.

If you know any non creepy men who would be happy with a non hijab-wearing gal, please let me know. I will pass it along to Vanilla Bean Counter. If he is really great, let me know, so we can save him for after she gets over it with a rebound boy. Nice chests and jobs are a plus.

An Evening at the Theater

Last night Vanilla Bean Counter and I went to Penguin Project's production of Fiddler on the Roof Jr. over in East Peoria. Before beginning my job, I had never heard of Penguin Project. It's a yearly musical production that features young performers, all with disabilities of some sort like CP, Down Syndrome, Autism, TBI, hearing impairment, and cognitive impairment. Several of my students were in the show, and they've been practicing since August.

I'm not sure what I was expecting, but the show was awesome! All the performers were fantastic, and the junior version of the show was so much better than the lengthy original. We heard the familiar songs and the pertinent dialogue but got rid of the tedious extras. The show lasted just under two hours, and it was well worth the price of admission.

Snow Day!

Today is a day when I'm especially glad to work in the schools. It's a snow day! And we have a lot of snow. I haven't seen this much snow for years. There are places in the yard where it's up to my knees. Scooping the driveway wasn't much fun, especially when I helped my elderly neighbor do his, too, but I think it was worth having the day off. I'm going to do some crafting and some cleaning. Fun, fun.

Ladies, Buy It, Seriously.

Recently, this product has come to my attention. Now, normally I'm not the type to advertise this sort of product, but it's fantastic enough that it must be said. If you've never heard of the mooncup or tried it, you need to. Really. You won't regret it. Due to some trademark issues, you'll have to purchase it on ebay. Feel free to ask me if you have questions. I'm starting a mini revoluation here.
