Lovely Weekend

Friday I was out of work at 1:00 following an in-service. It was 65 degrees and sunny, and I came straight home to dig in the dirt. It was wonderful! I finally finished the brick edging project that began last summer. What a huge undertaking, involving digging sod with a dull steak knife and laying about 300 bricks around the perimeter of my house. It looks fantastic now that it's done, and it was completely worth it. As soon as it gets warm for good, there will be planting galore (and pictures). I had no idea how much I enjoyed gardening, but I must say, it is quite satisfying.

Saturday was spent shopping with Shaun. Nothing too remarkable but always a fun time.

Sunday I drove up to the Quad Cities. My voice teacher from middle and high school was having a retirement party after years of playing the organ at a Presbyterian church. I hadn't seen her for at least four years, and at 88 years old, she still looked amazing with her familiar pink lipstick and black and white polka dot dress. She always was a very classy lady. She recognized me right away, and I was glad I made the drive up for five minutes worth of cake and punch. Mom, Dad, and I then went out to dinner and did a little shopping.

Nice weekend, and a nice four-day week ahead.

Beach Party in the Living Room

Vanilla Bean Counter and I assembled the patio table tonight. I just couldn't wait another minute! I think it looks quite nice in the living room, especially with a Full House episode in the background. (It was the prom episode where DJ gets jealous of Steve's old girlfriend. Don't worry, things worked out in the end, and we learned a valuable in the process.)

A Very Happy Birthday

It's my birthday, twenty-five years. Yesterday the celebration was started with a quick trip to Washington, IL. We went to a local popcorn shop, an old-fashioned candy store, and a nerd shop for the gentlemen.

Today Mom and Dad came for lunch and ice cream cake. We attempted to take a birthday picture. Mom and Shaun have never taken a wide-eyed shot on the first try, ever. We gave up after three attempts. Oh well, it's one of their charming quirks.
Fun birthday gifts included a garden hose and a patio table and umbrella. As soon as it warms up, I'll get some deck pictures posted.

Here's to a great year.

Now That's Handy

Due to an unfortunate Nerf sword accident at last weekend's party, our light fixture in the man cave needed to be replaced. (The combination of low ceilings and fun sword action wasn't good.) Joshua and I decided to tackle this project ourselves. It only took an hour, and now we have a new and brighter light. I'm quite impressed with Joshua. He took the lead on this project, and it looks great. Plus, our house hasn't caught on fire yet.
